Burgundy Canal and River Doubs : Dijon to Besançon

Sunday
At 4pm the Captain will meet you in the Arrivals Hall at the Dijon railway station or at another designated place in or around Dijon.
Mini-bus transfer to the Who Knows on the Burgundy Canal. Welcome aboard drinks.
Time to settle into your cabin and relax before your four course dinner.
Monday
Clos Vougeot Cruise to Longecourt en Plaine, arriving mid-afternoon. Lunch on the barge as we cruise. This afternoon we visit the Cistercian winery of Clos de Vougeot followed by a wine tasting in the cellars of a local Caves. Return to the Who Knows for dinner.
Tuesday
After an early breakfast, we head into Dijon city centre to experience the hustle and bustle of one of the region's largest markets.
Lunch on board. Afternoon cruise to the town of Saint Jean de Losne, which is the capital of barging in France. A lively port where the canal de Bourgogne meets the River Saone. The barge moors on the river key side. Dinner at your leisure in one of Saint Jean de Losne's restaurants.
Wednesday
We set sail and head upstream to the canal du Rhone au Rhine. Once on the canal there are many opportunities for walking or cycling. Lunch is served en-route. The barge moors up in the shade of the trees, just outside of Dole, the birth place of Louis Pasture. A walking tour of the old town centre and perhaps a drink on the terrace of a cafe. tonight dinner in one of the suggested restaurants of Dole at your leisure.
Thursday
Barge cruise river Doubs Cruise from Dole to Thoraise Tunnel. Today is about Cruising. As we leave Dole and head upstream along the river and canal passing by outstanding scenery, with cliffs and steep sloped valleys, the river is unspoilt and water cascades of stone weirs. The sundeck is the perfect place to watch the landscape pass by. The energetic passenger can cycle along the surfaced tow path which follows canal and the river. Lunch is on board. The afternoon continues to offer the same panorama as the barge cruises to the Thoraise tunnel. This evening's dinner is served on board.
Friday
After breakfast the Who Knows begins to sail and sets course for the medieval citadel of Besançon, which is the regional capital of the Jura hills. The barge moors below the impressive city walls towering above and dominating the surroundings. After lunch we tour the ancient ruins of Besançon. After the tour there will be time to wander the streets and browse the shops, soaking up the atmosphere in this most French of towns.
Saturday
After breakfast transfer to Besançon railway station and you bid farewell to the barge Who Knows.
Depending on starting point the itinerary may run in the opposite directions and therefore your arrival point will be Besancon train station and your departure will be Dijon train station, please confirm this at time of booking.
